This funny mug is perfect for geeks, nerds, and dorks. There are actually a lot of people on the internet debating and defining the differences between geeks, nerds, and dorks. I’m pretty sure most of those people are geeks, nerds, and/or dorks.

Here is an explanation from Professional Nerd, Burton Kent:

“There's 3 terms that tend to be confused as the same thing, and used as insults. Nerds, geeks and dorks. Here's what they actually mean.

Nerds are intellectual badasses. Knowledgable, smart, good problem solvers. I work at the Nerdery, and we proudly call ourself nerds. It's obviously not an insult to us.

Geeks are passionate about something. There are board game geeks, star wars geeks, cosplay geeks, astronomy geeks, carnivorous plant geeks, lockpicking geeks, salsa (dance) geeks, medieval battle geeks, MMA geeks, movie geeks, wine geeks, etc. Chances are you're a geek and you don't know it. If you're not, a geek, you're likely boring. There's got to be something you're passionate about and gets you excited.

The label geek tends to be used for someone passionate about things with a science or popular culture origin, or when there's no common term for someone with that passion. If there already is a term, it tends to be used instead of geeks. For example, foodies are geeks. Makers are geeks, and are usually nerds as well.

By the way, Fan is a less strong version of geek. It tends to be used for a specific entity, brand, etc. For example, Blackhawk fans, U2 fans, or Star Wars fan (as opposed to Star Wars geek).

I personally find it really fun to talk to geeks. You'll usually learn something interesting and cool.

Dork is another term that tends to get confused with nerd and geek. It refers to someone who's awkward and lacks social skills.

I consider the terms nerd and geek compliments. Not everyone does - some ignorant people try to use it as an insult. Dork is not so good.

The most popular TV show about nerds, geeks and dorks is "The Big Bang Theory." The characters are nerds because they're smart. They're also Star Trek geeks, board game geeks, comic geeks, physics geeks, etc. And the humor in the show comes from their lack of social skills (i.e. dorkishness) combined with the other labels.

So nerd, geek and dork are actually very different terms. However, people who fit one of these labels more often than not also fit another. Because of this, there are common assumptions about dork traits leaking over to geek and nerd. You can see these assumptions in the other answers. If you disagree, ask yourself this: If the dork traits were removed, would you still call that person a nerd or geek?”

Very interesting indeed but I must admit… It’s all geek to me!
