We’ve all heard it… go big or go home. Well frankly, most of the time I’d rather go home. Home is nice. Home is cozy. As an introvert, I would often choose going home over going big. What’s so great about big anyway? Big is way overrated. Not to mention that the people on television competitions that say it usually end up going home because their “big” idea sucked rocks.

However there is a phenomenon in our world, where people, or towns, or town people erect giant versions of everyday items or animals. In this case, we are glad they went big instead of going home because now there are various large stuff around to look at it that make the world more interesting. Here are a few of my favorites:

• World’s Largest Pistachio - Alamogordo, New Mexico

• Giant Strawberry - Strawberry Point, Iowa

• Giant Buffalo - Jamestown, North Dakota

• World’s Largest Axe - Nackawic, New Brunswick

• The Gaffney Peachoid - Gaffney, South Carolina

• World’s Largest Mailbox - Casey, Illinois

• Lucy the Elephant - Margate, New Jersey

• World’s Largest Chopsticks - Long Beach, Washington

• Salem Sue - New Salem, North Dakota

• The Big Duck - Flanders, New York

• World's Tallest Thermometer - Baker, California
