Just imagine with us a horrible scenario. You are asked to give a presentation at an event. You have been preparing for weeks. You’ve done all of the research, made flashcards, and rehearsed over and over again, but you’re still shaking harder than a rabid chihuahua as you make your way up to the podium. Sweat drips from places you didn’t know it could. You stand there, pale-faced, staring at a group of judgy corporate people who can see through your soul. You forget the first line. Reaching for your flashcards, you accidentally drop them all over the floor. Frozen in shock, you stand there, staring at the audience for what feels like eternity. Suddenly, GHOSTS AND SNAKES LEAP FROM THE CROWD AND ATTACK!

In reality, the crowd is booing and hissing.

Why has booing and hissing become a thing for crowds to do? Why do we have to make up noises to voice our displeasure when the phrase “you suck” has already been invented? Our theory on the subject is as follows:

Once upon a time, probably in Greece (cause that’s where most theatre people came from), a young actor (let’s call him Personophocles) was totally bombing. Hard core. He forgot all of his lines and was tripping on his toga all over the place. The problem was that no matter how much the crowd told him he sucked, we wouldn’t get off the stage! He was determined to see it through. Eventually, someone in the crowd had an idea. He decided to scare Personophocles off the stage. So he started making scary ghost noises. More people joined in, and eventually some snake noises were thrown into the mix. Personophocles was so scared that he ran away, and the people had peace once more. To this day, people still make scary noises to scare away the people that they don’t like.

Whatever the reason for it, this T-shirt makes an amazing gag or gift, pointing out the hilarity of this common reaction. Give it to your theatre friends, or to people who hate public speaking! Just don’t wear it onstage. Most audiences don’t need encouragement…

This is a fun shirt to wear on or around Halloween or anytime. It’s a great option for people who don’t like to dress up but still want to participate in Halloween fun! Boo! Hiss! Get great laughs and comments as you wear this around the office or to Halloween parties.
